Do You Know Jesus Christ?

Knowing Jesus

You were created by God, who loves you and wants to have a personal relationship with you through His Son Jesus Christ. But there is a problem -- something that separates you from God. It's called sin, and it means missing the mark -- we fail to measure up to God's holiness and perfection. We sin by things we do, choices we make, attitudes we show, or thoughts we have. We also sin when we fail to do right things.

The Bible says in Romans 3:23, "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Sin has devastating effects, both now and forever, unless it is dealt with. It causes personal pain and problems in this life, and separates us from God eternally in torment.

We cannot make ourselves right with God by being good enough to earn His love and forgiveness from our sins.

In the Bible passage in Titus 3:5 it reads, "He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy."

But the good news is that God loves us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to live the perfect, sinless life we haven't, and to die for our sins so that we may belong to God and enjoy Him always!

Romans 5:8 states, "God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." There is a condition here, though: We have to accept this gift from God through Jesus Christ. This involves doing the following:

  • Acknowledge that you are sinner and in need of Jesus Christ as your Savior -- this is to repent of your sins.

  • Believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead -- this is to trust that Jesus paid the full penalty for your sins.

  • Confess Jesus as your Lord and God -- this is to surrender control of your life to Jesus.

  • Receive Jesus as your Savior forever -- this is to accept that God has done for you and in you what He promised.

If it is your sincere desire to obey God and receive Jesus into your life as your personal Lord and Savior, then talk to God in prayer right now from your heart. Using your own words, you can pray something like this:

  • "Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and I do not deserve abundant or eternal life from you. But, I believe You died and rose from the grave to make me a new creation and to prepare me to live in your presence forever.

  • Jesus, come into my life, take control of my life, forgive my sins and save me. I am now placing my trust in You alone for my salvation and I accept your free gift of eternal life."

This is the most important decision you will ever make, and it will impact your life radically both now and forever! The Bible says in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He sent His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life."

Once you have done this, there are steps you need to take in order to grow spiritually and to follow Jesus Christ fully. They are:

  • Read the Bible to get to know Christ better.

  • Talk to God in prayer every day.

  • Be baptized, worship, fellowship, and serve with other Christians in a church where Jesus Christ is preached and the Bible is the final authority.

  • Tell others about the great thing that God has done for you through Jesus.

What We Believe

DaySpring Community Church is a part of the Southern Baptist Convention, and so we accept and follow the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message with regard to our biblical beliefs.

A few of the basic fundamentals of our faith are as follows:

  • The Bible is God's written revelation to humanity, and it is divinely inspired, authoritative, and has truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter.

  • Jesus Christ is God's Son, born of a virgin. He lived a sinless life, performed miracles, died on a cross, experienced bodily resurrection, ascended to heaven, presently intercedes for all who believe, and will return in power and glory one day.

  • God's Holy Spirit performs the miracle of new birth in an unbeliever, and indwells believers, enabling them to live a godly life.

People are created in the image of God, but because of sin, are alienated from God. Only through faith in Christ alone for salvation, which was made possible by His death and resurrection, can that alienation be removed and eternal life secured.
